DDEES IGNDEDDDD Curves 1-H A CATANARY curve is formed when a flexible cord is suspended between two fixed points. 2-A An ELLIPSE drawn when pen moves along a path in which the sum of its distances from two fixed points is a constant. 3-E A HELIX is formed by the path of the threads on a bolt. 4-G A MENISCUS is the curvature of the surface of a liquid in a tube. It is concave if a liquid, such as water, wets the tube and convex if the liquid, such as mercury, does not. 5-J An OGEE is an S-shaped curve such as the pantiles on a roof. 6-F A PARABOLA will reflect all of the radial rays from a light source at its focus as outgoing parallel rays, as in a flashlight. 7-C A PROBABILITY curve graphically displays the normal distribution of the characteristics and products of humans. 8-I A SINE wave is produced by a rotating generator armature that cuts through a horizontal magnetic field. 9-B A SPIRAL is used to guide a cartridge needle through the grooves in a phonograph record. 10-D A TORUS is the geometric term for a donutshaped solid.
