He said, “I was excited to see something I was a part of get an award at a state car show!” That was the icing on the cake for all of the hours spent in class. He added, “I also learned how to work as a team with my classmates. This is a class project and we, as well as our instructors, should stand proud of our creation.” “My instructors are like my best friends, they are excellent to learn from, and the college should be proud they are so into what they teach,” Harris also said. Harris plans to have his own automotive shop some day and he credits that desire to guidance from his instructors coupled with the excitement of completing the Cobra project. “From the electrical system to the carpet, we did it all!” he said. “And the winner is: the Piedmont Technical College Cobra!” announced another victory when the PTC Cobra also took home first place in the sports car category at the Greenwood Auto Show. And the Cobra won yet another trophy at the Laurens County Freedom Fest. “Not a bad track record, for a great-looking car,” said Jefferies. The PTC Automotive Technology department, along with volunteers from the college, hit the road with the Cobra to showcase the car at various car shows, career fairs, and festivals in seven different counties. Doing so demonstrates the quality and success of the college’s Automotive Technology department and gives potential students inspiration to pursue their dreams. “It is the ultimate marketing tool for the program and the college for enthusiasts of all ages,” said Jim Klauber, PTC’s vice president for institutional advancement and general counsel. Eventually, the Piedmont College Foundation, which funded the project, will sell the car and the proceeds will fund the foundation, automotive department activities, and automotive technology scholarships.
