ACTE Convention and Career-Tech Expo T HE Association for Career and Technical Education (ACTE) is gearing up for its annual convention, to be held December 13-15 in Las Vegas, NV. ACTE expects from 4,000 to 5,000 attendees. As always, a great program is planned, with hundreds of exhibitor workshops, division sessions, and continuing education seminars. To provide the most possible benefits to CTE educators, the association is partnering with a number of associations at this year’s convention. Partners include the Associa- tion for Career and Technical Education Research, which will hold its annual CTE Research and Professional Development Conference in conjunction with ACTE; High Schools That Work, which will offer two days full of sessions open to all attendees; the National Academy Foundation, which is developing a dedicated strand on career academies; NOCTI, which will hold a conference on assessment; Project Lead the Way, which will offer six sessions to attendees; and the National Association of State Directors of Career Technical Education Consortium. General Session Speakers Three highly informative and motivating speakers have signed on for the general sessions. Ruby Payne, who has served as a teacher, principal, consultant, and administrator, will share her insight on working with students in poverty, at the Opening General Session. Friday’s general session features Ray Simon, a U.S. Deputy Secretary of Education who oversees development of policies, recommendations, and initiatives relevant to achieving President Bush’s educational priorities, especially No Child Left Behind.
