Former middle school teacher Erik Weihenmayer will address the closing session. Blind since the age of 13, Weihenmayer is an accomplished mountain climber, paraglider, and skier—and is the first blind person in history to reach the summit of Mount Everest. His talk promises to inspire educators to overcome challenges and succeed in ways they cannot imagine. Division Sessions ACTE notes that its division vice presidents have put together hundreds of high-quality programs that address a number of timely issues in CTE. As just a taste of what’s in store, the Administrative Division offers “Recruit and Retain the BEST Staff in Your School” and “School Financing: Same Problem, Different Solution.” The Engineering and Technology Education Division presents “Engaging Students with World Class Manufacturing,” “Female Recruitment—Cheering in the Classroom,” and “Starting a Competitive Robotics Team: Epiphany or Insanity?” General Program Sessions, of interest to all, include “Are Your PowerPoints Working?” “Digital Tools and Blogging in Education: Basic Skills Every Educator Needs,” and “Podcasting: A New Generation of Teaching and Learning.” Trade and Industry features “A House of Cards: Tech Centers and High Schools” and “Critical Workplace Basic Employability Skills: The Skills Employers Want!” And the New and Related Services Division has scheduled “High School 101—21st Century Skills for 21st Century Students” and “Technology to Go!” All attendees are eligible to receive a certificate of attendance, worth 22.5 lecture hours, documenting session attendance for professional development purposes. try out new software, browse the latest publications, and learn about a wide variety of equipment and services for classrooms and labs. The exhibit hall is open December 13 from 10:30–4:00 and December 14 from 9:30–4:00. Vegas, Vegas, Vegas!
