The Host City Charlotte’s boosters boast of its being a dynamic city that will appeal to all visitors: “Truly a dynamic city, the changing face of Charlotte will surprise you. Walk along the bustling streets of Center City, step aboard the Historic Charlotte Trolley in South End, or stroll along the tree-lined streets of Dilworth to experience the warmth and Southern hospitality visitors to the Queen City have come to know.” In addition to restaurant offerings that range from haute cuisine to down-home Southern fare, the city has a number of other attractions. Highlights include Discovery Place, one of the top hands-on science museums in the nation, which provides ever-changing, entertaining facilities that foster experiences in areas ranging from life science to space exploration. More than a half-mil- lion people visit Discovery Place, its IMAX Dome Theatre, and the Charlotte Nature Museum each year. Charlotte is also home to the U.S. National Whitewater Center (USNWC). Located on the banks of the Catawba River, the Center is the world’s largest artificial whitewater river and an official U.S. Olympic training site. The USNWC is a nonprofit dedicated to promoting healthy, active, outdoor lifestyles. The 307-acre public adventure-sport facility includes whitewater rafting and kayaking, mountain biking and hiking trails, a climbing center and a ropes course. Olympiccaliber athletes, weekend warriors, and casual observers share this world-class sports and training center. Whether you want to play hard or relax on the river’s edge, the USNWC offers a great place to take it outside. In addition, ACTE offers car-racing fans the opportunity to tour the Penske Racing facility in nearby Mooresville. Convention goers who take the tour will learn about the Penske Racing and Snap-On education partnerships, then take a walking tour of the facility and racing garage. This year’s ACTE convention presents a great way to enhance your skills and knowledge, get inspired, interact with peers—and have some fun.
