Each year, one very special pet sitter proudly wears the Pet Sitter of the Year™ crown. Do you know why the title is the most coveted in the pet sitting industry? It’s because nominations for the award come from the most important people in a pet sitter’s life—clients like you. The judges evaluate all of the nominations based on your observations of the pet sitter’s commitment to PSI’s standards of excellence, along with a high degree of professionalism, dedication and personal involvement in animal issues and your community. This is the only award of its kind where you play a major role in telling the world about your extraordinary pet sitter! It is an honor for a pet sitter to be nominated for the industry’s highest award because the Pet Sitter of the Year sets a standard for other sitters and recognizes the winner for a job well done. Thank your pet sitter for the important place he or she fills in your pet’s life with a nomination for Pet Sitter of the Year. The 2009 Pet Sitter of the Year nominations are now open and will be accepted through September 30, 2009. The winner will be crowned during PSI’s annual convention in February 2010. The winner receives a wonderful assortment of prizes, including a trip to the convention, cash award and plenty of media recognition and publicity as the true royalty of the pet sitting industry! The Pet Sitter of the Year Nomination Form is available online, along with more information about the competition and PSI’s Recommended Quality Standards for Excellence in Pet Sitting. Travelers’ Info Page: There are many factors to carefully consider before taking a companion animal along on a trip. Sometimes the answer is, “Don’t!” But when the answer is, “Let’s go,” PSI offers some helpful tips that should smooth the way and help you with your traveling decisions. Disaster Preparedness for Pets: Disasters can happen anytime and anywhere and can take many different forms, from barn fires to earthquakes, from a propane line explosion to flooding from a violent storm. Any of these might necessitate evacuation. If you have horses or other large animals, it is important to have a plan to move your animals to a safe area. A plan is even more critical if you have a large group of animals. Check out this section of the Web site to locate valuable disaster resources and for instructions on preparing a disaster kit for your pets. 2008 • Pet Owner’s WORLD 15 http://www.petsit.com http://www.petsit.com/content32.html http://www.petsit.com http://www.petsit.com/content32.html http://www.petsit.com http://www.petsit.com
