Chemical Processing - May 2008 - (Page 11) << What vendors do you value most? We need your input to nd out which are the top technology providers EACH YEAR, CHEMICAL PROCESSING SEEKS OUR readers’ opinions about which vendors you most prefer in more than 40 categories. The information gathered helps us to better understand the products and services you’re most interested in to prepare meaningful content for you in future issues of the magazine. It also provides a “badge of honor” that the vendors highly cherish. It’s their opportunity to boast a bit because they’ve made it as one of your favorites. And, it gives you insight into how your peers view what the vendors have to offer. The results can also serve as a handy tool to help you select a particular piece of new equipment. To participate in the 2008 Readers’ Choice Awards survey, use this electronic link: www.surveymonkey.com/s.asp x?sm=weq9DvGjld6n9DqNncuHNQ_3d_3d. As an incentive, an 80GB iPod Classic will be awarded to a randomly selected survey participant. Please share the link with your colleagues so that we are able to collect even more input. In addition to those of you who respond through the link provided in this column, readers will receive e-mail notices and electronic newsletters to encourage their participation in the Readers’ Choice Awards survey. The rankings published in the magazine will show the percentage of total responses in each category that a particular company received. A minimum of at least 5% of the votes in a category is required for the company to be listed. Vendors that receive scores within 3% of each other are considered a statistical tie. We also hope you will take a few extra minutes to provide your comments about anything related to the survey. Perhaps there’s a category that’s not included, but you’d like to see it in next year’s version. Or maybe you’ve got extra insight into one of the vendors or products that you’d like to share with everyone. Whatever it may be, we’d like to hear from you, so please don’t skip the comments section of the survey. Reader response to the survey has grown every year since its inception in 2004. Speaking of surveys, if you missed the results of our annual Job Satisfaction and Salary survey, “Is it a tragedy or comedy for engineers?,” you can still access and read about it at www.ChemicalProcessing.com/articles/2008/048.html. If you haven’t visited our Web site recently, you may be interested to know that we’ve begun to add video content. Check out Editor in Chief Mark Rosenzweig’s “Rosenzweig’s Ramblings” www.ChemicalProcessing. com/multimedia/2008/003.html. In the current edition, he turns political pundit and predicts that we can expect action on greenhouse gases from the next President and that this will involve a “cap and trade” approach. Or, if you’d like to learn more about ethanol processing, see, or hear John Caupert’s, director, National Corn-to-Ethanol Research Center (NCERC), presentation on ethanol trends and processing at www.ChemicalProcessing.com/ articles/2007/188.html. If you prefer just the audio version, there’s a convenient link available to download it from the same page. Soon, you will see more video content provided on our Web site. As the world of electronic information continues to evolve, we want to grow with it and you to provide you with the most informative experience possible. CP Ken Schnepf Managing Editor kschnepf@putman.net May 2008 • 11 The survey is entirely reader-directed as no names of manufacturers or their products are listed. Survey results will appear in the July issue of Chemical Processing. We’ll also announce the name of the winner of the iPod Classic. This year’s survey marks the fth consecutive year the survey has been offered. The survey is entirely reader-directed as no names of manufacturers or their products are listed. Leaving the names out eliminates any bias in the results. It’s up to you to tell us your preferences about everything from bearings, boilers, and compressors to process automation systems, seals, and valves.
