Chemical Processing - November 2007 - (Page 9) << Multimedia stakes its claim Videocasts make their debut and prove popular THE IMMENSE POPULARITY OF SITES SUCH AS YouTube, MySpace, Flickr and other content sharing sites can’t be ignored. The proliferation of these kinds of sites in our everyday web searching and use is evident as recent posts become pop phenomena and are reported on the evening edition of the network news. In fact, nearly 75% of U.S. Internet users watched an average of 158 minutes of online video during the month of May, says Internet analysis company comScore in its Video Metrix report. Additionally, an average of 132 million Americans report viewing online videos for an average of 2.5 minutes per video. The advantages of such media are there (even if they’re not immediately obvious). For instance, rich and interactive media are forms of entertainment and can create a type of “mental break” during the stressful Processing.com/articles/2007/145.html). In this ve-minute video, Rosenzweig discusses the growing concerns surrounding the quality of products and manufacturing in China. Find out why we have so much more to be worried about than just lead in children’s toys manufactured in China. Look for more additions later this month and throughout the year. The second addition to our multimedia content is a keynote presentation by John Caupert, director of the National Corn-to-Ethanol Research Center (NCERC). In this 24-minute presentation, Caupert discusses the latest on ethanol processing trends and use. View the keynote at www.ChemicalProcessing.com/arti cles/2007/188.html. Don’t fret if you don’t have a half-hour to stare at the computer screen. We’ve given you the option to download an audiocast version of the presentation for you to listen to at your leisure, or download the file to your MP3 player to listen while you’re on the go. Besides multimedia additions, ChemicalProcessing.com has added a Wireless Resource Center that houses articles, product information, white papers and news under one roof. It can be found at www.ChemicalProcessing.com/re source_centers/wireless.html. Be sure to check it out for the latest on wireless advancements. As www.ChemicalProcessing.com moves ahead with multimedia content, we want to hear from you — our users — on what you want to see, what you want to listen to and what is the most useful to you. We have done our research and paid attention to the trends, but the best information can only come from the people who visit the site and find (or don’t find) the information they need. You can also reap the benefits from meetings, presentations and keynotes that you weren’t able to attend in person by watching them later — and at your leisure, even segments at a time. With evidence in hand, we at ChemicalProcessing. com, asked you what we could do to offer the same kind of service to you in a useful way. Yes, we could have posted the latest chemical processing music video from YouTube, but we wanted to highlight content that was a little more informative, concise and useful to you in your role in the chemical industry. Thus, we initiated the latest addition to www.Chemical Processing.com. You’ll nd our rst two videocasts located in the middle of homepage, directly under the top three featured articles.
