Forbes magazine recently published its annual listing of CEO salaries. Pay for food industry bosses ranged from the $66 million gross of Dean Foods’ Gregg Engles to the modest $810,000 for Hershey’s David West, the only food industry head honcho not to earn at least seven figures. Our report-on-the-report, focusing only on the food industry CEOs, will be in our August paper issue, but why wait? It’s on our web site now: www.FoodProcessing/ CEOpay08. See what your boss makes. PuBLIshIng publisher larry bagan lbagan@putman.net The June flooding in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, affected four food processing plants. Our NewsBites story (p.10) is a pretty compelling read, but more amazing are photos we purchased from the Cedar Rapids Gazette. PepsiCo’s Quaker Oats plant, Cargill Inc.’s corn milling facility and Penford Products all closed due to the flooding of the Cedar River. While not flooded, the Red Star Yeast plant was placed under operating restrictions by city utility management. These pics are worth a click. Last Call for our top 100© The Institute of Food Technologists’ Annual Meeting and Food Expo was held June 29-July 1 in New Orleans, the show’s first return since Hurricane Katrina.
