Food Processing - September 2007 - (Page 24) FOOD BIZ KIDS ‘Kind of s’mores-esque.’ Sweet, crunchy, sticky – maybe good for you Felix Gomez, 8th grade: The packaging looks just like the cereal box. The taste is good. The texture is great because most bars are too sticky and chewy and they get stuck in your teeth, but this doesn’t. The smell isn’t overwhelming. I think it needs no raisins at all, and they should call it “raisinless bran.” Eli Golden, 8th grade: I think if this was in my house, I would eat it. But if I didn’t have it, I wouldn’t recommend it. I consider it mediocre. It’s got cinnamon and has a good touch. But it also makes your throat very dry. It is a pretty powerful taste. Sage Siler, 8th grade: I like the package; it reminds me of the cereal. Since I like the cereal, I was anxious to try the product. It’s a little hard and kind of difficult to chew, but it tastes good. It’s sweet and crunchy, and it even tastes like it’s good for you. I can taste the oatmeal very clearly. It tastes good. I would buy this product because it is an easy snack that I could eat as I’m going out the door. Dante Huff, 8th grade: The bar tastes like oatmeal. The packaging sucks. The bar is too hard, like crusty toes. I’d only eat this if it was the last piece of food on Earth. Ardan Kelly Lowenstein, 8th grade: Nice easy opening package, small portions though. They are very tasty, hard, good to chew, very flavorful, kind of s’moresesque. I think they taste OK, altogether a good snack for kids. I think maybe bigger size portions and a softer texture. Vickey Miranda, 8th grade: The texture and taste are sweet, crunchy and sticky. The raisins are a sweet surprise. It smells like fresh honey and maple syrup. I believe this would be extremely useful for people that have healthy lifestyles and concerned moms and dads. 24 • FOOD PROCESSING SEPTEMBER 2007 Raisin Bran Crunch Cereal Bars Kellogg Co., Battle Creek, Mich Jocelyn Arreguin, 8th grade: I think the packaging makes it look good. But they looked really hard to chew, and they were. It smells like cinnamon and raisins. When I tasted it, I didn’t like it because it is too hard. It probably would taste better if it was soft and had fewer raisins. If it was softer, it would be better, and the cinnamon taste is good. Jessie Powell, 8th grade: The packaging is creative. It’s easy to carry because it’s so small. It tastes good, like cereal in a bar. It’s nutritious and easy to eat. It’s chewy and easy to swallow. These would be great for a little snack right after a long day; easy to get and ready to eat. Gabriel Mento, 8th grade: The packaging is really nice. If I saw it in the store, I would probably want to buy it. It tastes really sweet, I love the raisins and I can slightly taste some cinnamon. I like the texture too; it’s really soft and kind of chewy. I like the smell; it’s like cinnamon. I think the world needs this product because it’s delicious and healthy.
