Food Processing - October 2007 - (Page 39) ADVERTISEMENT FOR THE FOOD INDUSTRY U.S. soy will lead the global marketplace in food, feed and fuel innovations. SOY 2020: VISION What is Soy 2020? Soy 2020 is an inclusive visioning process bringing together all segments of the soybean industry, including farmers; processors; representatives of the food, feed and fuel industries; and others, to ensure a successful future for U.S. soy in the global marketplace. By undergoing this examination of the industry through the year 2020, there is an opportunity to create a vision for the future and to identify trends that can be leveraged or, in some cases, avoided by all industry members. Soy 2020 is designed to be a dynamic vision embraced and adapted across the U.S. soybean industry to promote positive change and growth. What can the food industry do to make the vision a reality? As soybean farmers and processors are working to meet the needs of the food industry, the food industry can help by collaborating on innovations to enhance the profitability of the entire value chain. When the food industry demanded an oil with good stability and usability that would also cut trans fats from foods, the soybean industry responded with low-linolenic soybean oil. For this dialogue to continue, we encourage the food industry to continue working with organizations, like the United Soybean Board and QUALISOY, and processors to inform them of their wants and needs for soybean oil and protein. Consumers want to know about new food technology and ingredients that can improve their health, and they look to the food industry for that information. That’s why we need your help – and the help of all stakeholders – to make the Soy 2020 vision a reality. How You Can Get Involved with Soy 2020: • Collaborate with organizations like the United Soybean Board and QUALISOY to identify soy ingredients that are most desirable for products. • Educate consumers and their influencers about soy health benefits • Communicate innovations in soy oil and protein to consumers The food industry can play a vital role in helping the Soy 2020 vision become a reality.
