If Hillary will do what she claims she will do, why didn’t it happen in eight years under her husband? All they did was hand over technology to China in return for campaign cash. She has been a senator for seven years, yet no proposals regarding American jobs and manufacturing have appeared from her. With Obama’s positions, if he believes them so much, why doesn’t he propose them now as a senator? For that matter, how can he explain the death of Illinois manufacturing on his watch as a state legislator? Interestingly, both candidates talk about a middle-class tax cut, but do not define what middle class is. In Democrat terms, household income must be below about $45,000 per year to qualify. There are a lot of people who are hurting that are beyond that, but the Democrats label those people as rich. The true middle class these days is up to about $180,000-$200,000 per year in total household income. What Democrats describe are actually the working poor. McCain has had four terms in the U.S. Senate to do something about jobs, but has done nothing. He is so far on the “globalist” side of things that he has a hard time seeing the shores of the USA. We should not bury our heads in the sand and be totally isolationist, but there is something to be said for being a little more “U.S.-centric.” There should be policies in place that make it favorable for companies not only to have an office presence in the United States, but a manufacturing presence. Whoever wins this November, American manufacturing will not gain one iota. Since the dotcom crash, I have been trying to find steady employment in the high-tech service sector. I understand that my age is against me, but I want to continue to work. My hope is that Hillary Clinton will get the Democratic Party’s nomination to be president. She is a proven consensusbuilder who has brought more federal money to the state of New York than any other senator has been able to do for their state. She also has indicated that she supports green technology. Joyce Vinson, MLS, MBA, consultant Citrus Heights, Calif. no good comes from greed The origins of the maintenance personnel shortage date back to the 1980s (“Reliability Nation,” April, p. 21, www. PlantServices.com/articles/2008/058. html). Remember “Wall Street” and Gordon Gecko’s famous line, “Greed is good …” We should have learned by now that it’s not. The solution is simple: Bring back manufacturing to this country. America needs to make things again; it is what made us strong and created the middle class. We must do it right now; demand will create jobs and the rest will take care of itself. D.
