Gorman-Rupp G Series positive displacement rotary gear pumps are designed with unique features which allow them to perform better and last longer than ordinary rotary gear pumps. Ductile iron gearing has 2-1/2 times the strength of traditional cast iron rotor and idler, which eliminates the need for expensive steel-fitted pumps. The computer-designed gear tooth profile provides smooth, quiet pumping flow. Deeper end-feed area offers improved performance under low inlet pressure conditions. Bushings are optimally positioned for maximum shaft support. And the Gorman-Rupp unique pressure-lubricated idler pin reduces wear by providing continuous cooling and lubrication of idler pin/idler bushing. Gorman-Rupp rotary gear pumps are interchangeable with most other gear pump manufacturers. Pumps are available with capacities to 600 gpm, pressures to 300 psi, viscosities to 2,000,000 SSU, temperatures from -90° F to 675° F. 120 110 Pump curve 100 90 80 70 60 50 40 30 20 System curve 10 ™ 0 2000 4000 6000 8000 10000 12000 Volumetric flow rate (gal/min) Head (feet) ETHERNET or Serial Input Distributed Field Devices Figure 1. A chemical plant, for example, had a signal transmission problem at a remote weather station. The plant’s weather station used a telephone line and modem to transmit wind speed, wind direction, temperature and humidity to a local Modbus RTU data log(REPEATER) ger located in a WLM Wireless Link approximately 1.5 miles away building Module from the control room. Ants attacking the phone line caused regular signal disruptions. Also, the weather station was located in a stand (MASTER) of pineWireless Link A pretty view, but pine needles attenuate trees. WLM Module and sometimes absorb 2,400 MHz signals. A demonstra- (REMOTE) WLM Wireless Link tion test was in order. Connecting the weather station’s Module data logger to a 900Monitoring WLM (wireless link module) MHz and Control radio fromEthernet or Moore Industries produced a clear signal. A System Serial Input Ethernet or Yagi directional antenna on the weather station’s 30-ft. Serial Input boom transmitted data to an omni-directional antenna and master wireless link module (Figure 3) located atop the control room. The plant now receives reliable, uninterrupted weather information from the weather station. After seeing the wireless demonstration’s performance at a site survey, some plants want additional surveys at other Headline locations. Fortunately, a wireless demo is simple to perform. Such was the case with the chemical plant. The first location was a remote sanitary lift station. A wireless link module radio with a Modbus interface module and an analog input module converted four analog signals to Modbus RTU and transmitted them to the control room. A wireless link module in the control room sent the Modbus signal to the control system. Initially, the second application appeared to be an unOBSTRUCTION Figure 2 There are always issues with signal transmission in an Solving problems WL NCS Conce Sys 54 www.PLANTSERVICES.com October 2007 http://www.GRpumps.com http://www.GRpumps.com http://www.PLANTSERVICES.com
