ICELAND CIRCLE 10 DAYS 9 NIGHTS a circular tour taking in many of Iceland´s richest natural wonders: the lakes and mountains of thingvellir national park, gullfoss waterfall and geysir hot springs, the charming northern town of akureyri, the lovely lake myvatn, the magnificent, horseshoe shaped canyon of asbyrgi, the towering mountains of the east fjords, the extraordinary, shimmering icebergs of jokulsarlon glacial lagoon and skaftafell national park. day 1: Arrive at Keflavik International Airport and transfer to hotel in nearby Reykjavik. day 2: Drive via the Hellisheidi mountain plateau to Gullfoss waterfall and the Geysir hot springs area. visit Thingvellir National Park with its mountains, lakes and canyons – site of the ancient Icelandic parliament. Continue on via the picturesque fjord of Hvalfjordur, or if you have a 4wd vehicle you can chose to proceed on the stark but spectacular Kaldidalur highland pass. Arrive at the beautiful west coast region of Bjordafjordur. Overnight in this area. day 3: Drive north to Hunafloi Bay and the towering mountains and horse-breeding valleys of Skagafjordur. Continue onwards to the town of Akureyri – capital of the north.Overnight in Akureyri. Optional Tours: river rafting or horse riding in Skagafjordur. day 4: Spend the morning explore Akureyri before heading off to Lake Myvatn – a stunning and tranquil area of lakes, volcanoes, strange lava formations and bubbling mud pools. Overnight in the Myvatn area on days 4 and . day 5: Another day to experience this remarkable area. Why not relax in the soothing waters of the geothermal Nature Baths, wonder at the colourful rocky slopes of the Namaskard pass or investigate the volcanic Krafla area. Optional Tours: whale watching from Husavik. day 6: Continue to the fishing village of Husavik and onward to the Tjornes peninsula. visit the spectacular Asbyrgi canyon and Jokulsarglijufur National Park before proceeding to Dettifoss – Europe´s most powerful waterfall. Continue to the town of Egilsstadir and overnight here. day 7: Continue past the towering mountains of the Eastern fjords to the town of Hofn. Overnight in the area. Optional Tours: Petra´s stone collection and boat trip to Papey Island. day 8: Marvel at the icebergs of the Jokulsarlon Glacial Lagoon before continuing to Skaftafell National Park where a hike is recommended. Proceed to the village of Kirkjubaejarklaustur and overnight in the area. Optional Tours: jeep tour to vatnajokull Glacier (Europe´s largest), Glacial Lagoon boat tour, Skaftafell hike. day 9: Return to Reykjavik along the spectacular south coast – a sweeping landscape of rocky shores and rolling farmland sandwiched between snow-capped mountains, glaciers and the ocean. Overnight in Reykjavik. day 10: Transfer to the airport for your flight home.
