22 I www.icelandair.co.uk I 0800 988 9989 2006-2007 my story of Iceland + SNOWmOBILINg On the second day of my trip I went on a snowmobile tour,not far from Reykjavik. The weather was fine and the fresh air invigorating. I experienced an incredible sense of freedom. There was not a single building in sight and no sign of people except the group I was travelling with. The sky was clear and blue. The mountains formed an epic backdrop. It was like going back in time. This is what the world must have been like centuries ago. how rare to be able to experience something like this today. + guLLFOSS When I returned home, I felt unsettled in my structured surroundings. I saw soaring rock faces instead of city streets. The memory of the golden Waterfall is really special. It’s particularly magnificent in winter when it breaks through the fetters of ice. + ThORSmORK I come from the city – a man-made world surrounded by buildings, traffic chaos, work and urban stress. A few years ago I went to Iceland. What a refreshing culture shock. We went on a Super Jeep trip to Thorsmork - an amazing hidden oasis amongst glaciers and thundering rivers. It really was a different world. + vESTmANNAEYJAR ‘Icelanders are immensely proud of their independence. They see their country as a symbol of liberty – an island in the mid Atlantic with an ancient culture, rich in history. When I visited the Westman Islands, off the south coast of Iceland, it was clear that the islanders place great value on their independence. I felt as though I was visiting a sovereign state rather than a small local community. It was a unique and exhilarating experience.’ http://www.icelandair.co.uk
