Business lounges are located across our route network. + 70 YEAR ANNIvERSARY In 2007 Icelandair celebrated 70 years of aviation history. Our airline roots date back to 1937 when Flugfélag Íslands was founded at Akureyri in northern Iceland. In 1944 three Icelandic pilots founded Loftleidir - later to become Icelandic Airlines. A proud moment in our history came in 1945 when Flugfélag Íslands made its first international flights to Scotland and Denmark. Loftleidir started international operations in 1947 and its pioneering low-fare services across the Atlantic commenced in 1953. In 1973, both companies merged under a new holding company, Flugleidir. Icelandair was chosen as its international and domestic trade name. Icelandair is now a subsidiary of the parent company, Icelandair group. + NEW SEATS AND IN FLIghT ENTERTAINmENT SYSTEm In 2007 Icelandair began to re-equip its Boeing 757 fleet. A new In Flight Entertainment system gives every passenger a great choice of programmes. The new seats are produced using the latest technology and materials, to provide our passengers with more space and comfort. The refurbishing will conclude in the spring of 2008. http://www.icelandair.co.uk
