GPS World - January 2008 - (Page 15) THE BUSINESS » MILITARY & GOVERNMENT L-3 Lands $33 Million Air Force Contract Extension L-3 Communications has received a $33 million option on an existing contract with the U.S. Air Force Space and Missile Systems Center (SMC) to develop standard cards for the Air Force’s Modernized User Equipment (MUE) Program. The MUE program is designed to fund the design and development of new GPS receiver technology for the support of future military GPS requirements. To date, L-3 has been awarded $74 million under this contract. The total potential contract value for L-3, including future options, is $90.6 million. With the exercise of this option, L-3 will build and qualify two GPS receiver enhancements. The first will be a Ground-Based GPS Receiver Application Module with a Modernized Standard Serial Interface (GB-GRAMM SSI). The second will be a GPS Receiver Application Module Type S (GRAM-SEM-E/M) card, according to the company. Development of the modules will mean a lower total ownership costs on many military programs, L-3 says. Work will consist of receiver card development for ground and airborne applications, including test and security certification for next-generation GPS technology. The Air Force awarded the initial MUE contract of $27.9 million to Rockwell Collins in 2006 to develop and demonstrate user segment receiver cards, establishing the first proof of design for the future GPS architecture. That contract, executed through October 2007, supported preliminary design of the modernized receiver cards. The new technology will provide enhanced integrity, exclusivity, and improved anti-jam capabilities, according to the Air Force. www.gpsworld.com Introducing OmniSTAR High Performance (HP), our revolutionary new DGPS system that redefines the standard for differential correction. OmniSTAR has developed cost-effective, reliable real-time corrections enabling high-accuracy applications over entire continents without deploying local base stations. Our innovative HP signal provides five times the accuracy of standard DGPS for horizontal accuracy of ~ +/- 10-15 cms. HP means a wide-area solution offering previously unobtainable levels of accuracy, opening the door for high-precision uses such as auto steering, guidance and automation of agri-vehicles, increased hit probability for GIS/utilities, rough grading for construction applications, survey projects, oil exploration, aerial photogrammetry, and more. We just raised the bar on accuracy and reliability, but it’s way within your reach. OmniSTAR HP.
