GPS World - May 2008 - (Page 37) 50+ LEADERS TO WATCH Chris Rizos Professor & Head | School of Surveying & Spatial Information Systems, The University of New South Wales Hans Streng CEO | Geotate ª In this an Olympic year, how can we live up to the Olympic ideal of citius, altius, fortius Ð swifter, higher, stronger? I' m fortunate to be part of the revolution fueled by GNSS in two activities. The International GNSS Service has just completed its Strategic Plan, and amongst improvements it will make is a move to a real-time service for science and the community. The International Association of Geodesy is establishing the Global Geodetic Observing System, laying the foundations for studying System Earth at millimeter accuracy. GNSS is truly a star performer Ð fast, accurate, reliable and absolutely essential.º ª Geotate, a recent spinout from NXP, brings to market a software/web service-based technology which enables a wide range of new geotagging applications. Geotate technology tags objects in a fraction of a second with a snapshot of raw unprocessed GPS satellite data. The raw data is converted into a geoposition through webassisted post-processing. The most compelling application is location tagging of photos and videos. Equipped with the Geotate sensor client, imaging devices such as DSCs, videocameras and accessories can create embedded geotags for photos, videos, or any other data-object in a fraction of a second and with virtually no power consumption.º Günter Heinrichs Head of Customer Applications Department and Business Development | IFEN GmbH Lt. Colonel Traci L. Kueker-Murphy Commander | 19th Space Operations Squadron ª We have had an exciting year 2007 at IFEN GmbH. We saw the uncertainties related to the Galileo program, we solved some challenges in setting up the Galileo Test and Development Environment (GATE) test bed, and we successfully launched our first commercial products to the market. For 2008/09 I will focus on the successful commercial putting into operation of the GATE test bed, the continuous extension and successful marketing of the commercial GNSS product family of IFEN, and setting up our new customer applications department, for the marketing and sales of and customer support for all commercial products. º www.gpsworld.com ª My goals are to see through the successful development and operational fielding of advanced versions of the GPS control segment (Architecture Evolution Plan and the Launch, Anomaly Resolution and Disposal Operations systems) to enable us to launch and fly the Block IIF satellite and to prepare for enhanced GPS capabilities such as SAASM and over-the-air key distribution and rekeying (OTAD/OTAR). Completion of these goals will provide modernized capabilities and improve our ability to seamlessly transition to future advancements such as OCX and GPS III.º Rod Bryant Founder & CTO | SigNav Pty Ltd. ª My team at SigNav has developed unique indoor A-GPS receiver technology able to use very weak signals to provide frequency, time and position with no strong signals and minimal or no position assistance. This is ideally suited to embedded use in pico-cells, femto-cells, and other telecommunications equipment deployed at the edge of the network. During 2008 and 2009 we will be working with customers to optimize our micro-module and chip-level products for new and emerging applications, improving the sensitivity of our receivers and developing adaptations for new GNSS signals. º May 2008 | GPS World 37 http://www.gpsworld.com
