GPS World - May 2008 - (Page 38) GPS WORLD EXCLUSIVE Julie Stamper GIS Coordinator | Pasquotank County, North Carolina Bill Corwin LAAS/GBAS Program Manager | Honeywell Aerospace ª I want to continue to improve mapping infrastructure needed to allow GPS/GNSS to achieve their full potential by promoting the U.S. National Grid in North Carolina and surrounding states and the NCOneMap vision of data sharing and NSDI standards.º Stamper has educated the GIS community on use of the Grid and demonstrated its application in emergency response and disaster recovery operations following Hurricane Katrina. Such interstate cooperation indicates the utility |of the National Grid as a nationwide spatial resource. David Tester CTO | Air Semiconductor James Simpson Attitude Control System Lead | Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter (LRO) Project, NASA Goddard Space Flight Center ª Exploration of the Moon is my major objective for 2008 and 2009. I am part of the team which designs, builds, tests, and then will fly LRO. This has expanded my attention from low-Earth orbit navigation problems to interplanetary navigation problems. Also, as an advisor to the University of Maryland and the Department of Homeland Security, I will enjoy working with students to formulate new methods of determining location of first responders and emergency personnel inside structures.º ª This year we will make Always-On GPS technology a reality for high-volume battery-powered mobile devices. My background is standard product wireless semiconductor development, and we approach GPS from the performance needs of locationaware applications executing on location-enabled devices. Air has a product architecture able to exploit system optimizations unavailable to alternative solutions, and we' re going to become recognized experts in low-power GPS semiconductors in 2009. Don' t be shocked when your next generation digital camera supports search-by-location features or your media player knows exactly where it is.º ª By the end of 2008 Honeywell will have completed, with partners around the world including the United States, Australia, Spain, and Germany, the certification activities with a CAT I GBAS. It has been rewarding to be at the heart of a development activity that includes air navigation service providers, airlines, airports, and academicians working hand-inhand with industry to address the complex technical issues of assuring integrity for the GBAS signal-in-space. The future of commercial airline operations will be safer, more reliable, and will realize the dividend of capacity improvements with the adoption of GBAS.º 38 GPS World | May 2008 www.gpsworld.com http://www.gpsworld.com
