GPS World - May 2008 - (Page 39) 50+ LEADERS TO WATCH John W. Betz | Fellow | The MITRE Corporation Randy Rollo Product Development Manager | U.S. Navy, SPAWAR Systems Center, San Diego Innovator and researcher in GNSS signals and systems, key participant in GPS discussions with other systems, lecturer on GNSS, and active member of the U.S. Air Force Scientific Advisory Board, Betz looks forward to the future of a multi-GNSS world. ª While it' s rewarding to see binary-offset carrier modulations and their variants being used by multiple systems to improve sharing of increasingly crowded frequency bands, more work is still needed to achieve needed compatibility and interoperability among multiple GNSSs.º Phillip W. Ward | Navward GPS Consulting ª My team continually strives to serve the warfighter with the best PNT capabilities in the shortest period of time. Warfighter PNT equipment of the future will require not only technical advancements but refinements that make them more informative and easier to use. We continue to pursue innovation in military GNSS receiver design techniques as, for example, the Navigation Nugget. While aggressively pursuing the ultimate goal of miniaturization, we can field larger-scale permutations and sensor-fusion techniques sooner. º ª It is my goal to advance our warfighters' cause to have the most advanced, accurate, and robust GNSS user equipment in the world, because they should never be asked to engage the enemy on a level playing field. I will participate in the Warfighter Technology Working Group led by The Aerospace Corporation and the GPS Vision Team led by the Institute for Defense Analyses. I will also publish GNSS receiver design articles to benefit the civil community. º Tony Murfin | VP Business Development | NovAtel Inc. Mark Petovello Assistant Professor | Geomatics Engineering, University of Calgary ª I' ve never seen the level of intensity and variety in any industry that I see today in the GNSS industry and the people who work in it. I' m pleased to have been involved in NovAtel and Canada' s Galileo contributions and the success we' ve enjoyed with WAAS systems and national networks worldwide. Horizons continue to expand with our involvement in India, Russia, and Japan on new and growing constellations and networks. It is exciting to be able to contribute, and I' m very grateful to be part of all this.º ª My most recent focus has been ultra-tight GNSS/IMU integration using software-based receivers. My major focus wil be providing highaccuracy (centimeter-level) navigation capabilities in degraded signal areas. Development of new acquisition and tracking strategies for upcoming GNSS signals will play a key role in this work as we strive to extract the highest positioning accuracy under the most severe operating environments.º www.gpsworld.com May 2008 | GPS World 39 http://www.gpsworld.com
