He advocated Loran as a low-cost, reliable, secure backup to GNSS. Today, the need for such backup is widely accepted. Recently the U.S. government cancelled its plans to decommission Loran and acknowledged the need for a GPS backup. These include analysis and integration of GPS M-code capabilities, enhanced performance in anti-jam environments, WAAS and LAAS aiding for manned and unmanned military aircraft, and commercial aiding sources to improve accuracies.
