Innovative sheeting products with microfilament technology offer comfort and strength. Microfilaments are much stronger than cotton or polyester fibers on their own, according to Greg Eubanks, group v.p. of hospitality sales and marketing, Standard Textile. “Instead of going with 100percent cotton, you now have some choices,” he said, adding that, typically, bed linens can use anywhere from 65-percent to 80-percent cotton. Carol Moran, president, A 1 Textiles, said very few hotels offer 100-percent cotton because they aren’t set up to do the ironing. “A 60 [percent]-40 [percent] blend is best for ease in washing and drying and it lasts longer,” she said. Bedding trends Mattress protection: Newer mattress covers are designed to cause less noise. In the past they crinkled and created heat. Today’s mattress covers let the comfort of the mattress come through. Fitted sheets: Hoteliers need to prepare their laundries for fitted sheets. Laundries often don’t like them because they can’t go through flat ironers. About 25 percent of hotels use fitted sheets; Marriott International was one of the first.
