The Bourne Ultimatum Banquet server cashes in on new car The Hilton Waterfront Beach Resort (Calif.) celebrated meeting its safety requirements in 2007 by giving associates a chance to win a car. Miguel Rodriguez, a server with the resort’s banquets department, drove off in a 2008 Scion XB. The resort’s g.m., J.D. Shafer, nicknamed “J.D. Cash” for this game-showthemed event, also awarded 300 employees with an additional $16,000 in cash prizes. Hilton Miami Airport team carries a heavy load Twenty team members, including g.m. Dave Smith of the Hilton Miami Airport, participated in the second annual plane pull competition to raise money for the United Way. The hotel team pulled an American Airline 737 jet 30 yards in 25.9 seconds. The winner of the competition was the team from Miami Dade Aviation, who pulled the 95,000-pound plane 30 yards in 20.4 seconds. The event was coordinated by American Airlines to benefit the United Way. Nine teams of 20 people participated. MARRIOTT HARTFORD DOWNTOWN Marriott helps children keep warm Associates from the Marriott Hartford (Conn.) Downtown organized a coat drive for Hartford charities throughout December. They collected a total of 53 coats, which were donated to the Boys and Girls Club of Hartford/Southwest and Hartford’s Mercy Housing and Shelter. The Marriott Hartford Downtown is connected to a new Connecticut Convention Center and plays a significant role in the revitalization of downtown Hartford. HILTON MIAMI AIRPORT Quotable Hyatt employees see the light Holiday spirit abounds at Toy Fest Jasmin Henschel, graphic designer at Interval International, volunteered to paint children’s faces with festive holiday designs as part of a recent City of South Miami Holiday Toy Fest. More than 400 children participated in the event, co-sponsored by Interval International, a leading provider of exchange, travel and leisure services. During the event, each child had the chance to meet Santa Claus and was treated to a holiday gift. HYATT CITY OF SOUTH MIAMI “ Marilyn has really transformed this company. We’ve all seen how she’s built such a leadership role and stature in the industries in which Carlson operates.” HUBERT JOLY, incoming president and c.e.o. of Carlson, on the legacy of Marilyn Carlson Nelson Hyatt Regency Minneapolis organized a “Green Holiday Food Drive” to benefit Second Harvest Heartland, the Upper Midwest’s largest hunger relief organization. Each hotel employee who donated two non-perishable food items received a compact fluorescent lightbulb, provided by Sylvania and a Minnesota lighting distributor, Muska Lighting. As a result, Sylvania and Muska Lighting donated 400 CFLs each, enough for every employee at Hyatt Regency Minneapolis.
