This year marks the introduction of all-new activities, including a chocolate chef’s table, “chocolatology” and “chocolate mixology” and a chocolate fantasy tea party. Other activities included chocolate tastings, chocolate dessert decorating demonstrations, chocolate spa sampler packages, wine and chocolate pairings, the Hotel Hershey Chocolate Cooking School and more. Hershey Lodge also celebrated Milton and Catherine Hershey’s passion for travel by welcoming guest chefs who represent the cuisine and cultures of some of their favorite destinations. Academy awards The Academy of Hospitality and Tourism hosted a gala dinner in New York to honor key players who have contributed to the evolution of tourism in Brooklyn. Honored at the event were Joshua Muss, a New York developer; Marty Markowitz, the Brooklyn borough president; and Michael Leven, former president and c.e.o. of US Franchise Systems and current trustee of the Leven Foundation. ACADEMY OF HOSPITALITY AND TOURISM Dallas hotel goes to the dogs Hotel Lumen in Dallas gained a new employee with its guest ambassador, Sigmund, a 4-year-old Dachshund, who greets guests up on their entrance. As part of the hotel’s pet-friendly policy, pets can receive overnight accommodations in a premier double or premier king room; a doggy bag including a leash, a bottle of water and a glow-in-the-dark collar; a complimentary “pawdicure;” and doggy beds and bowls for use at the hotel. Quotable High-rolling management team The Desert Rose Resort in Las Vegas was honored with Shell Vacations Hospitality’s Management Appreciation Award, the most prestigious recognition given to any of the 19 Shell management teams. The winning team was chosen based on internal comment card scores, exchange company ratings, results from employee surveys and compliance with Shell standards.
