Hotel & Motel Management - March 17, 2008 - (Page 23) ADVERTISEMENT HotelMotel.com | H&MM March 17, 2008 Advertorial 23 Choice Hotels rolls out updated extended-stay designs MainStay Suites and Suburban Extended Stay hotels deliver more guest comfort and developer efficiencies ® ® n the extended stay segment, owners can maximize their likelihood of success by not only having the right programs in place to drive occupancy, but also by having a product that meets the needs of extended-stay guests. Choice Hotels International’s extendedstay team has been hard at work refining its prototypes. The company recently introduced new prototypes, featuring freshly updated interior design schemes for its two extendedstay brands, MainStay Suites and Suburban Extended Stay Hotel. With a spate of new hotels opening in the first quarter of this year, the new look for these two extended-stay brands is beginning to appear at properties from coast to coast. I MainStay Suites Choice Hotels refined the prototype plans for its mid-market MainStay Suites brand late last year. The new plans updated the appearance of the exterior and improved the overall curb appeal. Most importantly, these revisions resulted in lowering development costs from the previous prototype by up to $5,000 per key without compromising any of the amenities. Some of the specific design improvements include: A redesigned and simplified building exterior that uses fewer wall materials and eliminates costly balconies. Created a more compact and efficient public space without sacrificing guest needs and comfort. Added an additional guest room without increasing overall building square footage. Updated interior design schemes for guest rooms and public spaces. A new deluxe queen suite layout that is more efficient and less expensive to furnish than the previous design. Enlarged guest-room kitchens with full-size sink and dishwasher. Suburban Extended Stay Hotel Choice Hotels economy brand, Suburban, benefited from a new prototype developed in late 2007, featuring: A compact, four-story, L-shape design requiring less land than previous prototypes. A more upscale building exterior featuring stucco or brick/siding combination. Flexible floor plans enabling owners to include an optional fitness center and meeting room without incurring expensive architectural redesign work. Optional one-bedroom suite layout. Choice’s fresh new interior design schemes for Suburban provide a mid-market appearance and appeal at economy-level prices. The first hotels featuring these new designs are now open – three hotels opened in January and February and six more are scheduled to open by the end of March. “The response to these new prototypes from the development community has been amazing,” said Kevin Lewis, President, extended stay brands, Choice Hotels International. “And just as important, guests are telling us they love the new look of MainStay™ and Suburban hotels.” Choice Hotels expects to open a minimum of 30 new MainStay Suites and Suburban Extended Stay hotels in the U.S. and Canada this year.
