Elevators and integrated systems are relatively new aspects of perimeter security, according to lock vendors. “[Elevator access control] is becoming more common because of the awareness of security and need for security,” said Glenn Peacock, director of marketing for Kaba Lodging Systems. “Not too many years ago, access control was reserved for gold level floors or an amenity floor,” he said. “Now it’s more for safety.” Bill Oliver, v.p., sales & operations, EMEA and North America, Onity, said a partner within partner company United Technologies, Lenel Systems, is working to integrate multiple access control products into one and is set to launch later this year. “It will be a robust access control system specifically for Onity that will include video, fire—all of the various systems,” he said.
