Vlasic, regional v.p. for Kimpton Hotels, was honored with the 2008 State Leadership Award by the American Hotel & Lodging Assn. during the recent AH&LA Legislative Action Summit. Vlasic, who served as chairman of the Illinois Hotel & Lodging Assn. in 2007, received the award for his work on behalf of the IH&LA. Compiled by Jason Q. Freed, jfreed@questex.com 33 Homewood Suites by Hilton was honored by the National Coalition for the Homeless with a Watlov Family Outstanding Service Award for its philanthropic support of the organization. For two years, Homewood Suites has aided NCH by raising funds, holding clothing and linen drives and assisting in other charitable initiatives for the organization. The chain recently completed a short documentary on NCH, which will air on its inroom entertainment guide. InterContinental Hotels Group’s Americas operations division, the Hotel Management Group, was awarded the Silver others by sharing their skills and knowledge. Kessler will compete for the national Pastry Chef of the Year title against the winners from the three other regions at the 2008 ACF National Convention in Las Vegas this month. Commonwealth Hotels was Hilton, Hyatt and Starwood hotels is an employer to more than 600 individuals. The Best Places to Work competition is managed by Best Companies Group. Winners are chosen based on an assessment of the company’s employee policies and procedures and the results of an internal employee survey. The inaugural Green Supplier Award for environmental excellence and innovation within the meetings industry was presented recently by IMEX, the worldwide exhibition for meetings and incentive travel, and the Green Meeting Industry Council. The Gold Award was given to Fairmont Hotels & Resorts, while the Vancouver Convention & Exhibition Centre received the named one of the Best Places to Work in Kentucky for a second consecutive year. Reggie Award by the Promotion Marketing Assn. for its 2007 Chase the Extraordinary program. IHG received the award in the Business to Business Promotion category. The Chase the Extraordinary program was conducted in 30 states and 12 countries and included employee rallies to launch new company initiatives—most notably, the replacement of more than 250,000 incandescent lightbulbs with energy-efﬁcient compact ﬂuorescent versions at company-managed hotels. The Reggies (short for cash register) recognize extraordinary promotional and marketing initiatives. The International Association of Conference Centers of North America presented its highest honor, the Mel Hosansky Award for Distinguished Service, to Rodman Marymor, c.e.o. of Cardinal Communications, who steered IACC’s online presence to its current design. Since 1985, the Mel Hosansky Award has been presented to individuals who have given the most to IACC and the conference center industry. Kathleen Kessler, pastry chef at Hilton Cincinnati Netherland Plaza, received the American Culinary Federation, Northeast Region, Pastry Chef of the Year Award.
