The hotel was able to raise more than $5,000 for the Make-A-Wish Foundation through its efforts. At the pie-throwing contest, associates made donations to throw cream pies at their managing committee and supervisors, including [above, from left] Patrick Donelly, g.m., Gary Marr, catering director, and Jerry Gibson, v.p./managing director. Pizza party: Students get lessons from sous chef A fifth-grade class from Mill Creek Elementary School came to the Omni Jacksonville (Fla.) Hotel for an interactive lesson about the hotel industry. The kids took a tour of the entire hotel and, at the end of the tour, they made pizzas with the hotel’s sous chef, Mike Meeks. Eight managers spent the morning with the fifth graders, answering their hotel-related questions and explaining to them the wide variety of career opportunities in the lodging industry. IHG Award of excellence for Holiday Inn InterContinental Hotels Group received the 2007 American Association of Training & Development Excellence in Practice Award for the company’s People Notice program developed for Holiday Inn Hotels & Resorts. John McCain, R-Ariz., made a stop in Orlando at Rosen Shingle Creek, where he hosted a private fundraising luncheon.
