SKIRVIN HILTON Suites in Flatiron, Colo., took home the full-service GM of the year award, and Linda Hunt of the Residence Inn Warrenville, Ill., was named select-service GM of the year. White Lodging also named the Boulder Marriott full-service property of the year; the Courtyard by Marriott Louisville, Colo., select-service property of the year; and the Residence Inn Mount Olive, N.J., extendedstay property of the year. Julie Swanson, front-desk manager of the Country Inn & Suites by Carlson–Marquette, was presented with the 2008 Guest Relations Star of the Year Award by the Michigan Lodging and Tourism Assn. The interior design for Emerald Grande at HarborWalk by Maitland, Fla.-based Helman Hurley Charvat Peacock/ Architects in collaboration with Winter Park, Fla.’s Raleigh Design, received a 2008 ARDA Gold Award from the American Resort Development Assn. Developed by Legendary of Destin, Fla., Emerald Grande’s 281 resort residences sit along 17 acres on Destin Harbor and include both fractional and whole ownership units. A jury of industry peers reviewed more than 1,000 entries in 13 categories that included management, advertising, marketing and design. The Gold Award for interior design is the program’s highest honor. Two properties owned by The Villa Group have been nominated for 2008 Travel Ag West WAVE (Western Agent’s Vote of Excellence) Awards. The Villa del Arco Beach Resort and Spa in Cabo San Lucas was nominated for Best New Property in Mexico. The Villa del Palmar Resort and Spa, also in Cabo San Lucas, Benchmark Hospitality International presented its annual Chairman’s Award of Excellence to George Ables, guest services manager at Stonewall Resort in Weston, W. Va. The award, which recognizes extraordinary contributions to the community and the company, was presented to Ables for his outreach initiatives and reflection of the company’s values of integrity, the intrinsic value of the individual, entrepreneurship, partnership and dedication to service. North Point Hospitality Group was recognized by Hilton Hotels Corp., as a top developer and was named the multibrand developer of the year. S. Jay Patel, North Point president, and J.K. Patel, founder and CEO, accepted the award. The Embassy Suites Hotel Boca Raton (Fla.) is the first hotel in Boca Raton to receive the Florida Green Lodge designation given by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection. The hotel is the fourth Embassy Suites in Florida to receive the Florida Green stamp of approval. The Comfort Suites University Park/Sarasota (Fla.), which is owned and operated by Buffalo Lodging Associates, was named inn of the year by Choice Hotels International. Paul Leclerc, GM of the Loews Portofino Bay Hotel in Orlando, was named Loews Hotels’ GM of the year, and the hotel’s food-and-beverage department earned the company’s Silver Plate award. Mary Pat Hartmann, GM of the Residence Inn Louisville (Ky.) Downtown, was named White Lodging’s GM of the year in addition to extended-stay GM of the year. Dave Kennedy, GM of the Renaissance Boulder The Luxury Institute named Small Luxury Hotels of the World the No. 1 luxury hotel brand. The company also received the top ranking for the luxury hotel brand that offers the best customer experience. White Lodging received Hilton Hotels Corp.’s developer of the year award for the Hilton Garden Inn brand. Barton Creek Resort & Spa in Austin, Texas, received the Carlson Marketing Spirit of Excellence Award, which recognizes hospitality partners for outstanding service in meetings and events. The Courtyard by Marriott Oxnard (Calif.) received two honors from the Oxnard Chamber of Commerce: The hotel won the chamber’s 2008 Small Business of the Year Award and Patrick Mullin, GM, received the 2008 Man of the Year Award. The American Hotel & Lodging Assn. named nine Stars of the Industry award winners. Outstanding Lodging Employee of the Year awards went to Polly Vestall, a housekeeper and supervisor at the Arctic Caribou Inn in Prudhoe Bay, Alaska; Mary Stone, private branch exchange operator and CARE Committee guest relations associate, Doubletree Guest Suites Anaheim (Calif.) Resort/Convention Center; and Matt Lohnes, doorman, Westin Waltham-Boston. Outstanding Manager of the Year award winners are Julie Allred, front-office manager, La Quinta Suites in Albuquerque, N.M.; Brenda Bufford, executive housekeeper, Comfort Suites Perimeter Center in Atlanta; and Terry Richard, banquet manager, Nashville Marriott at Vanderbilt University. Outstanding General Manager of the Year award winners are David Grossberg, Concord’s Colonial Inn in Concord, Mass.; Wes Tyler, Chancellor Hotel on Union Square in San Francisco; and Dennis Clark, The Fairmont Olympic Hotel in Seattle. Monica Bonifazi in Santa Ana, Calif., won Embassy Suites’ 2007 revenue manager of the year distinction, Donna Keffer at Embassy Suites Denver received Embassy Suite’s 2007 director of sales of the year and Brenda Taylor at Asheville (N.C.) Renaissance Hotel won Marriott’s 2007 property sales leader of the year award for a Renaissance franchise partner.
