The franchise sales team executed a record 720 domestic hotel franchise agreements in 2006, up 13 percent over 2005. The Grand Hyatt Atlanta was awarded the Outstanding Community Service Award. Madeleine Kleiner, general counsel to Hilton Hotels Corp., received the Anthony G. Marshall Hospitality Law Award, which recognizes an individual’s pioneering and lasting contributions to the ﬁeld of hospitality law, during the Fifth Annual Hospitality Law Conference. Wendell Couch, recently retired as senior v.p., global risk management, InterContinental Hotels Group, received the Hospitality Loss Prevention Lifetime Achievement Award. The Embassy Suites Hotel St. Louis-St. Charles was recognized as the No. 1 Embassy Suites hotel with the Connie Award from Hilton Hotels Corp. Lewis Thompson, banquet captain at the Capital Hilton in Washington, won the Employee of the Year award from the Hotel Assn. of Washington, D.C., for his efforts in saving a choking guest. A 29-year employee of the hotel, Thompson used the Heimlich maneuver to aid the guest. Chris Ahrendt and Brooke Stall were named Associate of the Year and General Manager of the Year for the TownePlace Suites brand by Marriott International. Stall is g.m. and Ahrendt is operations manager at the TownePlace SuitesAlpharetta (Ga.). Hilton Hotels Corp. recognized the Doubletree Hotel Philadelphia as one of 11 properties to have earned a share in the company’s 2006 multimillion-dollar Go For The Green award. The Chicago Marriott Downtown Magniﬁcent Mile received four awards during the annual Marriott International Global Conference. General Manager of the Year was presented to Doug Ridge. The hotel also received Property Sales Team of the Year, Revenue Management Team of the Year and eCommerce Marriott.com Hotel Web Site of the Year. First Hospitality Group’s chairman and c.e.o., Stephen Schwartz, was selected for induction into the Chicago Area Entrepreneurship Hall of Fame. Fortune magazine recognized Marriott International as the most admired company in the industry of hotels, resorts and casinos for the eighth consecutive year. Marriott was the most admired company in Maryland.
