36 Hotel Operations MUSIC BY CHRIS CROWELL, ASSOCIATE EDITOR H&MM October 6, 2008 | HotelMotel.com Personal music takes the stage People rarely leave home without their own music on ﬁle, and hotels are looking for the best method to accommodate this new way of life. “The move in hotels … is to make a hotel feel like home,” said Chris Gowdy, VP of sales for Hotel Technologies. “Listening to your own music provides relaxation and comfort.” Hotel Technologies offers the Timex series of alarm clocks, which has a line-in for any MP3 player, and the iHome, which is a similar concept that has a dock-and-charge feature for iPods only. “The guest can go to sleep to their own music, wake to their own music and leave for the day with their iPod or iPhone fully charged,” he said. DLO, which offers its own alarm clock option, iBoom, has partnered with LodgeNet to offer RoomDock Premier. This allows guests to plug in an iPod and operate it through the TV using a single remote. “It allows the guest to plug and play many devices at one time without it auto-selecting,” said Mike Woods, director of business development for DLO. Bowers & Wilkins provides the Zeppelin—no alarm clock, no remote, just sound. “[The Zeppelin] gives you that rich feeling of being at home to provide yourself with that soothing acoustic experience,” said Tyler Fairchild, director of hospitality sales and marketing of Bowers & Wilkins.
