Franz Hanning, Wyndham Vacation Ownership president and CEO, and Geoffrey Balotti, Group RCI president and CEO, will remain in place as the basis for Wyndham Worldwide’s operating management team. Future plans The Wyndham Hotel Group comprises nearly 7,000 properties totaling more than 581,000 guestrooms across 65 countries. Holm- es is looking to expand on these numbers by concentrating on a three-part plan. The ﬁrst part is international expansion, Holmes said. He looks for signiﬁcant growth across all of Wyndham’s brands in the Asian, Indian and European markets. “The U.S. brands have much more appeal and strength in the other markets than they have had in the past. We’re seeing a lot of interest,” Holmes said. He also mentioned the advantage it has over- seas because of the relationships Wyndham Vacation Ownership and Group RCI have formed within certain markets. The second part of the Wyndham Hotel Group expansion is to more fully develop its current brands and be “opportunistic” in adding new brands, Holmes said, as it recently did by adding US Franchise Systems to its portfolio, which included Microtel Inns & Suites and Hawthorn Suites. The last major area of growth will come from the Wyndham Hotels and Resorts brand, which Holmes hopes to better establish in the market. “We’ve worked hard to position and put that brand in the proper place for success, and we’ve made incredible progress over twoplus years,” Holmes said. This expansion comes at a time of economic concern for many in the industry, but Holmes said Wyndham’s plans are unaffected. “The industry may look to brands to add that value [during tough times],” Holmes said. “We’re not an owner, we’re not in the market and getting ﬁnancing—where the largest challenge is, quite frankly. … We’re here to help others reposition those hotels.
