The remainder of the year looks to be robust. Due to a highly efficient operating model that requires fewer staff at each property, high occupancy levels, and increased demand, extendedstay hotels have provided owners higher margins and greater returns. Approximately 20 Choice-brand extended-stay properties are under construction. In addition, developers have executed franchise agreements for another 50 hotels in the United States and Canada, with 35-plus more projects in the development pipeline. MainStay Suites and Suburban prototypes have been re-engineered to yield greater returns by removing added costs that did not provide increased space or functionality. The first hotels built with these prototypes are now open.
