The roundtable group included Faith Taylor, VP sustainability, Wyndham Worldwide; Raymond Neal, VP, HKS Hill Glazier Studio; Judy Seiter, designer, Hatchett Hospitali- ty; Brenda Wulff, director of interior design, Cambria Suites at Choice Hotels International; and Anthony DiGuiseppe, principal, DiGuiseppe Architecture. The participants addressed a broad range of topics, including globalization, sustainability and the rising influence of design across all segments of the hotel industry. Both brand representatives and independent designers reported increased development and demand for design worldwide, especially in South and Central America, Asia and Mexico. Sourcing on foreign projects is a challenge for designers, with the various code standards, import restrictions and quality issues. Increasing consumer taste levels also are compelling developers and brands to constantly evaluate and improve their offerings, the participants said. “We have a very smart, savvy customer out there,” Wulff said. “Our brand strategy is: we want to be authentic, we want to be genuine, so we want to deliver what we have promised to those guests.
