Making waves from L.A. to Beijing Hilton Hotels Corp. held its Hilton Swim to Beijing Relay on Nov. 5, with a kickoff at the Hilton Los Angeles/Universal City. The goal of the event, also held in Hilton hotels in Minneapolis; Austin, Texas; San Francisco; Omaha, Neb.; and Beijing, was 6,250 laps, with each lap signifying one mile of the distance from Los Angeles to Beijing, the host city of the 2008 Olympic Games. U.S. Olympic swimmer Michael Phelps joined the relay team of athletes, celebrities, swim teams and hotel guests. Hilton donated $10,000 to learn-to-swim programs in each event city and $50,000 to The USA Swimming Foundation. Rock ‘n’ roll for a cure Mark Vinciguerra [left], managing director of The Phoenician in Scottsdale, Ariz., and Reggie Quitoriano, revenue manager, rocked on stage at a concert by The Suits, The Phoenician’s inhouse band, at Harolds Cave Creek Corral in Cave Creek, Ariz. The show beneﬁted the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation International. Record-setting reading Associates from the Hyatt Regency Washington and special guest Justin Maxwell [right], an outﬁelder for the Washington Nationals, visited Seaton Elementary School for Jumpstart’s Read for the Record. Over 28% of the delegates felt that money provided for hotel construction would decrease - the largest percentage of ALIS delegates believing this in the last 5 years. However, over half are still optimistic about the amount of construction monies increasing. The same survey of ALIS delegates indicated that the most finance-able lodging developments today are in the Limited Service Segment. The Condo Hotel fever appears to have completely “cooled” for the time being with Condo Hotels dropping from 5th place to last place (9th) in terms of perceived finance-ability.
