Home Media Magazine - Agent DVD - July 2008 - (Page DVD36) *TVFILES ‘SPACED’ OUT SPACED: THE COMPLETE SERIES Available July 22 ($59.98 three-DVD set) BBC Video BY KYRA KUDICK T GH DVDS OF VIE EALED Carter says fans also should check out the episode “Home,” from season four. The disturbing episode about a family that’s been inbred for a century was only re-aired once during the show’s initial run. “‘Home’ is possibly the all-time favorite episode across the board,” Carter says. “It was scary beyond anything we had ever done and highly entertaining.” As far as the new film’s DVD and Blu-ray Disc are concerned, Carter says loads of extras are planned. “I had a small digital video camera that I pointed in various directions while making the film,” Carter says. “I think there will be some of that footage in there. I know there will be a more graphic version of the movie, which was edited for a ‘PG-13’ rating. There will be bloopers and funny stuff.” Carter says future incarnations of “The X-Files” — as well as other Carter projects such as “Millennium,” “The Lone Gunmen” and “Harsh Realm” — may depend on the success of the latest “X-Files” film. “If I did it again, I would do it mindful of sacrifices,” Carter says. “But when you hook into a big fish like ‘The X-Files,’ it’s worth the fight.” AGENTDVD AgentDVD.com he wait is over for American fans long anticipating the DVD release of the British cult comedy Spaced, from the creators of Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz. “It was the soonest we could do it,” says director Edgar Wright of the delayed North American release. He explains it took awhile to sort out music rights and other items. “We didn’t want to have to change it.” The critically acclaimed show, rife with pop-culture references to sci-fi and horror fan favorites, consists of a scant 14 episodes. “It is a British tendency to only do two seasons and quit while we’re ahead,” Wright jokes. Despite the short series length, the DVD has a comprehensive set of special features. “We put a lot of TLC into the extras,” Wright says. He adds he particularly enjoyed recording the new commentary with Pegg, Hynes and guests he affectionately terms “American geek legends”: Quentin Tarantino, Kevin Smith, Bill Hader, Matt Stone, Patton Oswalt and Diablo Cody — all admitted fans of the show. © Channel 4 The series, which aired from 1999 to 2001, stars co-creators Simon Pegg and Jessica Hynes respectively as Tim, a struggling comic-book artist, and Daisy, a fledgling freelance journalist. The two twentysomething Londoners meet as strangers in a cafe and develop a friendship as they both search for apartments. They decide to pose as a couple to secure the perfect flat, thus turning ordinary situations into extraordinary comedy. Along with the new guest commentary, the extras include the original commentary from the first British DVD release with Pegg, Hynes and Wright; a Q&A with cast and crew recorded at the National Film Theatre in London October 2007; a feature-length documentary Skip to the End on how it all began; the Homage-O-Meter, an onscreen tracking device for the pop-culture references made in the show; and the usual deleted scenes, outtakes and more.
