Home Media Magazine - Agent DVD - July 2008 - (Page DVD48) *DVDFILES GREATEST ACTION-ADVENTURE FRANCHISE INDIANA JONES PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN 8.6% DIE HARD 7.6% 46% JAMES BOND 30.6% N FATE O V the EDITOR’S CHOICE: JAMES BOND I ndiana Jones picked up a huge voter surge from TheForce.net fans signing on to support “Star Wars” in the sci-fi category. But even among the non-“Star Wars” voters, Jones wins, though by a narrower margin (36.7% to 31.8%). However, it’s hard to ignore the longevity and success of the Bond films, with 22 films spanning 46 years. The series also redefined action films forever, inspiring numerous imitators, including Indiana Jones. – JOHN LATCHEM Source: AgentDVD.com GREATEST COMEDY FRANCHISE the GHOSTBUSTERS 32.7% (The films of Kevin Smith) AUSTIN POWERS 21.9% THE NAKED GUN 14.5% N FATE VO THE VIEW ASKEWNIVERSE 30.8% EDITOR’S CHOICE: AUSTIN POWERS W hile ‘Ghostbusters’ is great (the first movie, anyway), this is really a toss-up between the “Austin Powers” trilogy and the Jay & Silent Bob series from Kevin Smith that includes Clerks (1994), Mallrats (1995), Chasing Amy (1997), Dogma (1999), Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back (2001), Clerks II (2006) and the 2000 “Clerks” animated series. Because Smith’s films are inconsistent, and “Austin Powers” perfectly spoofs James Bond while staying funny in its own right, the edge goes to “Powers.” – JOHN LATCHEM AgentDVD.com AGENTDVD JULY 2008 47 http://TheForce.net http://AgentDVD.com http://agentdvd.com
