Home Media Magazine - Christian Entertainment Report - Fall 2008 - (Page 11) game reviews FAMILY FRIENDLY GAME REVIEWS By Stephan Mack t is hard to believe that Plain Games is nearly eight years old. I founded Plain Games back when I was a freshman in high school, after finding that there was a complete lack of information on the Internet about the content found in video games. I envisioned a web site where both game players and parents could converge to find relevant information about games. This website would address what types of content concerns surrounded a particular title, its technical issues or prowess and, of course, I its entertainment value. This vision became a reality in 2002 with the launch of PlainGames.com. Beyond simply providing information, the Plain Games staff is dedicated to educating content-conscious consumers by equipping them with the information necessary to make informed purchasing decisions that support traditional family values by writing straightforward and honest reviews of games in order to fuel a more positive gaming experience. I believe it is important for everyone to understand the game industry and to know what to expect from a title prior to purchase and play. This includes both parents and game players. We target both groups with our reviews, helping to bridge the gap between parents and their children, in this area that requires the involvement of both audiences. For parents, Plain Games offers easy-to-find information about a game?s content for parents. Game players, on the other hand, want information about how fun a game is to play and what the story of the game is about. Each of our reviews analyzes game content and quality to help both parents and game players make great video game purchases.” Since I founded Plain Games, I have wanted to publish our reviews and articles in print to make this information more accessible to readers. Current print publications on games do not take into consideration the content found in games and we believe that needs to change. That is why we joined Family Entertainment Central, where you will find information on various forms of media, including game reviews from Plain Games, specifically designed for parents. They too, see the value in bringing you a print edition of our material and have made it possible for you to read this article; the first of what we hope will become a regular column in Christian Entertainment Review. Stephan Mack is president and founder of Plain Games, a company that is dedicated to helping families make wise game purchasing decisions based on traditional family values. Stephan has been working as an analyst within the immerging family-friendly sector of the electronic game entertainment industry for over seven years and has been a guest on the nationally aired radio program, Truth Talk Live.
