Arnold he direct-to-video sequel Snow Buddies, from Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment, scored a surprise win on the national DVD sales chart the week ended Feb. 10, beating several high-profile theatricals to emerge as the week’s No. 1 seller. The latest in a string of sports-oriented dog movies aimed at families moved about 50% more DVDs than the Sony Pictures Home Entertainment musical Across the Universe, which grossed $22.4 million at the box office and debuted at No. 2 on the Nielsen VideoScan First Alert sales chart. Snow Buddies also outsold the Warner Home Video thriller The Brave One, which made $36.7 million in theaters and debuted at No. 3 on First T Alert; the Brad Pitt Western The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford, also from Warner, which bowed at No. 5; and the Universal Studios drama Elizabeth: The Golden Age, which grossed $15.9 million at the box office and debuted on First Alert at No. 7. In rental stores, the crown went to Walt Disney Studios’ The Game Plan for the third consecutive week, with estimated rental revenue of $7.4 million. The sports film has now generated more than $26 million in rental stores alone, or nearly one-third its box office take. On the high-def disc front, Across the Universe was the top Blu-ray Disc seller, while Elizabeth: The Golden Age was the No. 1 HD DVD seller. Universe sold more than three times as many copies as Elizabeth.
