Arnold alt Disney Studios Home Entertainment’s 101 Dalmatians easily topped the national DVD sales chart the week ended March 9, the latest in a series of Disney animated classics to debut at No. 1 in their extras-packed Platinum Edition form. 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment’s Mr. Magorium’s Wonder Emporium, a family fantasy that grossed $31.8 million in theaters, was a distant second on the Nielsen VideoScan First Alert sales chart — despite a cast led by Dustin Hoffman and Natalie Portman. The two new releases bumped the previous week’s top seller, Paramount Home Entertainment’s Beowulf, to No. 3, while another Source: Blockbuster Inc. W Paramount new release, the acclaimed adventure biopic Into the Wild, debuted at No. 4. In rental stores, where demand for family product generally isn’t as strong as it is in stores where videos are primarily sold, Beowulf remained at No. 1 the second consecutive week. After two weeks, according to Home Media Magazine’s video rental chart, the fantasy has generated $19.9 million in rental revenue, or nearly 25% of its entire theatrical gross. Into the Wild debuted at No. 2 on the rental chart, earning an estimated $8.8 million, about half as much as it made in theaters. On the high-definition disc front, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment’s 30 Days of Night remained the No. 1 Blu-ray Disc seller, while Beowulf was the top HD DVD seller.
