Arnold ccomplishing a rare feat, season three of the hit TV series “The Office” debuted at No. 1 on the national DVD sales chart the week ended Sept. 9. The set, from Universal Studios Home Entertainment, is the first TV DVD release to top the sales chart its first week in stores since Disney’s season-two set of “Lost” exactly a year ago. Season three of “The Office” bumped the previous week’s top seller, Paramount’s Blades of Glory, to No. 2. The TV DVD release also beat several new theatrical features, including Universal’s Georgia Rule, which bowed at No. 3 on the Nielsen VideoScan First Alert sales chart, and Lionsgate’s Delta Farce, which debuted at No. 7. Georgia Rule also was the week’s top rental debut, landing at No. 6 on Home Media Magazine’s video rental chart its first week in A stores. Estimated rental earnings were $3.4 million — virtually neck-in-neck with Delta Farce, which bowed at No. 7. Delta Farce, a ‘PG-13’ comedy with Larry the Cable Guy, topped some sales charts around the country, and reportedly overperformed at some of the country’s biggest retailers, including Wal-Mart. Also performing well its first week in stores were Disney Princess Enchanted Tales: Follow Your Dreams, which debuted as the week’s No. 4 seller, and two new TV DVD releases, Warner’s season-four set of “Nip/Tuck” and 20th Century Fox’s season-two set of “Prison Break,” which bowed at No. 9 and No. 10, respectively. On the high-definition disc front, Warner’s 300 remained at the top of both the Blu-ray Disc and the HD DVD sales charts, according to First Alert data.
