Arnold VD buyers got Knocked Up like crazy the week ended Sept. 30, snapping up an estimated 3.5 million copies of the Universal Studios Home Entertainment comedy and sending it straight to No. 1 on the national home video sales chart. Knocked Up also proved a rental powerhouse, topping Home Media Magazine’s rental chart for the same week, with estimated earnings of $10.1 million. No other DVD came close to Knocked Up on the sales front. Paramount’s Next, a Nicolas Cage thriller that grossed a disappointing $18 million at the box office, debuted at No. 2 on the Nielsen VideoScan First Alert chart but TOP 10 RANK TITLE INDIE RE TAILE R RE NTALS Week ended October 1, 2007 STREET DATE VIDEO LABEL GENRE D sold a little more than 10% as many copies as Knocked Up. The film fared better in rental stores, generating $6.9 million its first week out, nearly 40% of its theatrical total. The previous week’s top seller and renter, Warner’s We Are Marshall, slipped to No. 3 on both the sales and the rental chart. The only other new release to crack the First Alert Top 10 was the Lionsgate horror movie Bug, with Ashley Judd, which earned a mere $7 million in U.S. theaters. In the high-definition disc arena, Knocked Up bowed at No. 1 on the HD DVD chart its first week out, while Warner’s 300 regained the top spot on the Blu-ray Disc chart.
