The Nanny Diaries 12/4 10/23 $25.8 Comedy DVD $29.95 BRIEFS I SCREEN DIGEST BUYS ADAMS MEDIA RESEARCH Adams Media Research (AMR), perennial supplier of home entertainment data and market analysis, has been acquired by London-based research firm Screen Digest Ltd., for an undisclosed amount of cash and Digest stock. Tom Adams, former managing editor of Video Store Magazine, precursor to Home Media Magazine, founded Carmel, Calif.-based AMR 14 years ago. Adams will continue as president of AMR and join the Screen Digest board. In turn, Allan Hardy, managing director of Digest, and senior analyst Ben Keen will join AMR’s board. The merger will infuse more resources into AMR, which the company plans to use to expand its research capabilities and staff of seven, according to Jan Saxon, VP, senior film analyst with AMR. The merger is slated to close by the end of the month. – Erik Gruenwedel said LCD panel revenue is projected to increase 17% from Q2 and 45% from the same period last year. For the year, largesize LCD panel revenue is projected to rise 27%, to $68.7 billion, compared to $53.9 billion last year. The report projects 20% growth for monitor panels, 35% growth for notebook panels and 51% growth for TV panels in 2007, compared to 2006. – Erik Gruenwedel Genius/Weinstein. 2007. The companies are working out price details and pegged early 2008 as a target for getting the deal done. Previous reports put the price of the sale at roughly $870 million. Bikini Bloodbath 12/11 11/6 DTV Horror DVD $14.95 I PARAMOUNT’S ‘JACK RYAN’ SET RECALLED Paramount Home Entertainment has recalled The Jack Ryan Collection HD DVD four-disc, four-movie set, originally slated for an Oct. 23 street date. In a letter to retailers, Paramount said the packaging “inadvertently notes special features that are not on the HD DVD. As a result, this product is being recalled and street date is being delayed.” It’s unknown whether the eventual release will include the extra features or if the existing discs will be repackaged. – Chris Tribbey I UGC PRINCIPLES OUTLINED Several major media and Internet companies joined forces to announce a set of rules for handling copyright-protected video online. The Walt Disney Co., CBS Corp., NBC Universal, Fox Entertainment Group, MySpace, Microsoft, Viacom Inc., Veoh Networks Inc., and Dailymotion are in the coalition, which released a list of 15 “User Generated Content Principles.” It can be viewed at www.ugcprinciples.com. The list includes guidelines for Web sites that feature video, including warnings against uploading copyrighted content in the terms of use, the implementation of content-identification technology, and retaining information on users uploading video.
