Arnold pidey caught DVD consumers in his web the week ended Nov. 4, as Sony Pictures Home Entertainment’s Spider-Man 3 easily vaulted to the top of both the national DVD sales and rental charts. The third installment in the hugely successful comic book-based movie series grossed $336.5 million in theaters over the summer and easily topped the Nielsen VideoScan First Alert chart its first week in stores, pushing the previous top seller, Paramount/DreamWorks’ Transformers, to No. 2. Spidey’s pull was so great that a boxed set of all three “Spider-Man” movies debuted at No. 5, despite a $40 price tag. On Home Media Magazine’s rental chart for the week, Spider-Man 3 also bowed at No. 1, S with estimated revenue of $9.7 million, with Transformers at No. 2 with $7 million — a drop of just 18% from the previous week for the long-legged robot film, which was released more than three weeks ago. Warner’s License to Wed, a romantic comedy with Robin Williams and Mandy Moore, debuted at No. 4 on First Alert and No. 5 on the rental chart, with rental earnings of $4.2 million. Walt Disney Studios’ Meet the Robinsons remained in high demand its second week in stores, finishing at No. 3 on First Alert and No. 4 on the rental chart, with $5.4 million in rental revenue. On the high-definition disc charts, SpiderMan 3 was an easy victor on Blu-ray Disc. On the HD DVD chart, Transformers remained at No. 1 for the third consecutive week.
