A • Harkin's summer theatrical run, per average screen $10,000 • Darrell Hammond, Saturday Night Live, Saturday Night Live Primetime as John McCain. Massive consumer impressions • Jason Mewes, star of current theatrical hit Zack and Miri with Seth Rogan and star of Jay and Silent Bob films • Dave Foley star of Kids in the Hall and News Radio • Genius spin off to TV's #1 sitcom The Office • Netherbeasts and Vampires huge theme and topic tied to "Twilight" books & movie hype Key Marketing Points s a fantasy spectacle, Prince Caspian is a winner. It’s got beautiful natural locations, lots of fantasy creatures, various battle sequences and talking animals. Those who enjoy the spectacle will love the extras on the second disc of the three-disc set. The featurettes are fastpaced and well-produced, with sweeping and romantic or thundering and triumphant music from the score in the background. Viewers are treated to behind-thescenes looks at the sets. C.S. Lewis, the author of the children’s novel Prince Caspian, left description sparse for readers’ imaginations to play. The filmmakers take on Lewis’ scarcity of description, planning the interior of tomb-like structures, a full-size castle, beaches and overgrown ruins. Another featurette focuses on director Andrew Adamson’s love of previsualization, where action scenes are plotted out video gamestyle weeks before filming. The small idyllic town of Bovec in Slovenia is highlighted in another featurette, which captures a little of the experience of dropping them into a town that is the vision of ideal nature. These featurettes, to their detriment, don’t explore C.S. Lewis’ vision for the second book in the series or the implications of magic and deep magic in Narnia. My favorite extras are twin featurettes on the little-people actors Peter Dinklage and Warwick Davis. Both are great actors and come off as funny, self-effacing and skilled. – Brendan Howard ven if you’re not a fan of the “Hellboy” comics, Hellboy II is a must-have for any Blu-ray Disc library. Director Guillermo del Toro has crafted one of his most entertaining and visually fantastic films. Special effects-driven spectacles such as this were made for high-definition. BD allows fans to see every nook and cranny of del Toro’s visual masterpiece — especially the Troll Market sequence. Hellboy II also makes full use of its DTS-HD 7.1 Master Audio soundscape. I KUNG FU KILLER Prebook 12/2; Street 1/6/09 Genius, Action, $14.95 DVD, NR. Stars David Carradine, Daryl Hannah. D © 2007 Ronalds Brothers Productions 1-888-818-8428 aec | BAKER & TAYLOR | INGRAM | NAVARRE | VPD | SUPER D avid Carradine is back in action in Spike TV’s two-part miniseries Kung Fu Killer, which proves to be extremely bloody and violent even for basic cable. This is a true “guy movie.” The beautifully shot piece, set in China during the late 1920s, stars Carradine as White Crane, who was raised by monks and trained to be a skilled spiritual leader and deadly martial artist. After his mentor is killed by henchmen of the evil Khan Xin (Lim Kay Tong), Crane seeks revenge. He partners with Jane (Hannah), a Brooklyn lounge singer who is overseas trying to locate her brother, a scientist being forced by Khan to develop the lethal gas. The film was shot entirely on location in China, which shows with its stunning cinematography, and it was nominated for two Leo Awards for its musical score and picture editing. It’s also the first time Carradine and Hannah have appeared together since Kill Bill. Kung-fu fans, who probably missed this on cable since it ran against the Summer Olympics, won’t be disappointed. – Matt Miller Among the BD-exclusive extras, Universal is making great use of BD Live. One of the coolest features is the “Comic Book Builder,” which allows users to select still images from the movie and drop them into comic book layouts, personalizing them by typing in the text. These comics can be shared with friends online. Hellboy II also supports U-Control picture-in-picture for in-film navigation of the special features. For those not familiar with the comic, there’s a feature that offers comic book backstories for each of the characters. The rest of the bonus material is also available on the DVD. Casual fans will enjoy “Troll Market Tour with Guillermo del Toro,” which takes a behind-the-scenes look at the film’s most memorable set. It’s also worth listening to del Toro’s commentary track, which offers a ton of interesting anecdotes. Sadly, Perlman is not included on either of the commentary tracks. For the large contingent of diehard “Hellboy” fans, a special collector’s edition Blu-ray includes a figurine, production journal from del Toro and a mini poster. – John Gaudiosi Contact : Jason Pfardrescher • Director of Sales • 972-671-5200 • Jason@wellgousa.com 16 Home Media Magazine November 30–December 6, 2008
