Financial terms of the new deal were not released. However, Reuters reported CBS and YouTube will share revenue from advertising sold around the episodes. — Chris Tribbey I PIONEER BOWS DVD-BURNING DRIVES Pioneer Electronics Oct. 14 launched separate internal and external DVD/CD computer writers featuring technology that allows consumers to download movies and music from the Internet and burn them to a blank DVD or CD. The internal DVR-2920Q ($69.99) and external DVR-X162Q ($114.99) writers, which are available at retail later this month and in November, respectively, feature Sonic Solutions’ co-created Qflix download and burn technology that enables users to legally burn Hollywood movies from download site CinemaNow. Sonic Solutions previously announced a partnership with CinemaNow that resulted in the movie download pioneer’s library becoming Qflix-compatible. The drives also incorporate Roxio’s Venue software that better allows users to manage, back-up and play digital media. “Qflix [provides] necessary bridging technology that allows content owners to deliver … the convenience of digital dis- tribution with the permanency and portability of the DVD,” said Mark Ely, EVP of strategy with Sonic. David Cook, president of CinemaNow, said the writers provide a packagedmedia option that can be used on multiple players. “It unlocks content for consumers who are searching for movies or [TV shows] that do not even exist on DVD,” Cook said. — Erik Gruenwedel I WARNER BROS.
