The Special K challenge will run from May 1 through June 31. The campaign will promote Kellogg’s Special K products and Anchor Bay’s “10 Minute Solution” DVDs as a way to help consumers lose weight. “It’s no secret that the most successful way to lose weight is with a combination of eating right and exercising,” said Julie Cartwright, Anchor Bay’s VP of brand marketing. “Teaming with a health-conscious brand like Special K will expose millions of consumers to the benefits of working out with DVDs.” The “10 Minute Solution” logo and an image of 10 Minute Solution: Quick Tummy Toners instructor Jessica Smith will appear on 43 million packages of Special K products, including cereal, drinks and drink mixes, frozen waffles and other Kellogg snacks. These products will include a mail-in offer for a “10 Minute Solution” sampler DVD by mail for A free, with the purchase of five Special K products. The sampler DVD will be made up of workouts from four best-selling DVDs — Quick Tummy Toners, Pilates Perfect Body, Fat Blasting Dance Mix and Kickbox Boot Camp — and will include a $2 coupon toward the purchase of these full-length “10 Minute Solution” DVDs: Quick Tummy Toners, Dance Off Fat Fast and Pilates Perfect Body. The Special K Challenge will be supported by a national television and print advertising campaign. Point-of-purchase materials for the “10 Minute Solution” DVDs include clip strips and floor displays that will be positioned next to Special K products, which also will have special POP displays. “We hope that millions of health-conscious consumers of Special K who have never worked out with a DVD before will become fans of the category and especially the ‘10 Minute Solution’ brand,” Cartwright said. Feb. 3 releases Chakra Balancing Yoga With Sharon Gannon (DVD $14.99). Due March 10 is Cardio for Beginners with Petra Kolber (DVD $14.99), followed April 7 by Hemalayaa: Yoga for Everyone (DVD $14.99). BRIEFS ■ GAIAM, ‘SHAPE’ PARTNER Gaiam has announced a new multiyear licensing deal with Shape magazine. Gaiam will have exclusive rights to develop and distribute at least four Shapebranded fitness DVDs per year over the next three years. The first two titles are Ultimate Bikini Body Workout and 20 Minute Makeover, which will be released in April and will be made available at gaiam.com, shape.com and in retail stores nationwide. Gaiam and Shape first collaborated on the Mari Winsor Pilates for Pink Workout, released last September. The DVD was part of Shape’s campaign to raise breast cancer awareness and funding for research. Gaiam donates a portion of DVD sales to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. Acacia Debuts Two New Fitness Lines By Angelique Flores corn Media’s Acacia line is launching two new fitness brands: “… for Beginners” and “Dance and Be Fit.” Acacia built the series concept in 2008, said Mark Stevens, president of Acorn Media U.S. The company streeted the first title in the “… for Beginners” line, Yoga for Beginners, in late-August 2008. Dance and Be Fit: Latin Groove and Dance and Be Fit: Brazilian Body streeted in September. Now the brands are making official debuts March 10 with the releases ■ CINEMA LIBRE has out Dying to Have Known (DVD $19.95), about the alternative health treatment, Gerson Therapy. Arriving Feb. 17 is The Gerson Miracle (DVD $19.95) ■ LIONSGATE Feb. 3 streets Jillian Michaels: No More Trouble Zones and Jillian Michaels: Banish Fat, Boost Metabolism (DVD $14.98 each). ■ BODYWISDOM LAUNCHES NEW FITNESS LINE Bodywisdom Media has debuted a new line of fitness DVDs called “Getting Started.” The brand includes DVDs and books for those who want to start working out. Getting Started With Tai Chi, Getting Started With Qi Gong and Getting Started With Belly Dance will street March 31 (prebook Feb. 24). Getting Started With Yoga, Getting Started With Prenatal Yoga and Getting Started With Cardio Sculpt are out. – Angelique Flores Each DVD is $19.99. A ■ STRATOSTREAM has released Bellydance: Beautiful Technique From Step One, The Beginner’s Path to Flawless Artistry (DVD $14.98). Honey & Spice: Sensual and Fierce Burlesque (DVD $14.98) arrives Feb. 24, followed April 28 (prebook March 17) by Silk & Feathers: The Burlesque Fan Dance (DVD $14.98). Due March 31 (prebook Feb. 17) is Bellydance Hip-Hop: The Liquid Fusion (DVD $14.98). Cardio for Beginners and Dance and Be Fit: Lower Body. Each DVD will be $14.99. Rather than feature one instructor, each series will use different instructors for each title. “We’re looking at instructors who have a high level of experience and have a long track record [in what they’re teaching],” Stevens said. The “… for Beginners” line was created to introduce various types of fitness workouts to a beginner audience,” Stevens said. “We wanted to demystify some of these disciplines,” he said. The “Dance and Be Fit” line will tap into the popular dance fitness arena. Each DVD will feature a workout using a different style of dance. “Dance [accounts for] more than 30% of fitness titles sold,” Stevens said. Acacia is planning 25 titles under these two lines during 2009.
