As president of domestic home entertainment, Burrows has seen her company grow faster than the rest of the competition in recent years, thanks in large part to outstanding product as well as exceptional retail partnerships with key accounts such as Best Buy, Target, Wal-Mart, Sam’s Club, Netflix, Costco, Trans World Entertainment, Musicland and Blockbuster Inc. Overseeing all domestic planning, marketing, finance activities, President, Domestic operations and sales, Burrows also is responsible for keeping a Home Entertainment, close eye on other Viacom labels, such as Nickelodeon, CBS, MTV, Paramount Pictures BET and Comedy Central. Burrows joined Paramount in 1985 and moved quickly through the ranks, from sales gigs in Atlanta and Chicago to SVP of sales in 1996. She was later promoted to EVP of sales and marketing before being named to her current post in 2003. LEXINE LORI MACPHERSON WONG Workloads bigger than hers are few and far between in the home entertainment business. As GM, North America, for Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment, the woman affectionately known as “Lori Mac” oversees domestic sales, distribution and marketing for all home entertainment product at one of the most recognized and beloved entertainment brands in the world. Lori MacPherson almost makes it look easy. “Lori has always been one of my most trusted confidants through all of the years I have known her,” said Bob Chapek, worldwide president of Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment. “Her leadership has represented one of the main strengths in our orgaGeneral Manager, nization and has helped lead WDSHE to phenomenal North America, Walt growth and success time and time again.” Disney Studios Home Indeed, MacPherson took the post in 2006 and sprinted with it. With Entertainment her at the helm in 2007, WDSHE grabbed No. 1 in five DVD sales categories (re-release, direct-to-DVD, preschool, TV DVD and sequel). “Her foresight and vision will certainly have us primed in the coming years of convergence and new technology evolutions,” Chapek said. A Disney employee for more than 17 years, MacPherson came on board with the brand marketing and product management department in 1991. She moved up the ranks quickly, standing out during the heady days of DVD and now Blu-ray Disc. MacPherson’s TV DVD efforts earn special accolades from peers and colleagues alike: She oversaw the launches of “Felicity,” “The Osbournes” and “Lost.” She’s been crucial to WDSHE in extending the Disney Video Premiere line to live-action films, culminating in the direct-to-DVD launch of Snow Buddies. A graduate of Pomona College with a bachelor’s in French literature, MacPherson earned the Fulbright award. She is married with two children. Among a long list of proud accomplishments, perhaps none stands out on Lexine Wong’s resume more than Blu-ray Disc. Sony Pictures Home Entertainment led the industry during the format war, campaigning relentlessly for Blu-ray Disc, which ultimately trumped HD DVD last February after a brutal two-year format war. And Wong, senior EVP of worldwide marketing, was on the front lines the entire time, her colleagues say. Indeed, Wong was the overall marketing architect for the worldwide launch of the format. “Lexine is a talented, smart and respected executive — irrespective of gender — whose marketing strategies have consistently established SPHE as a global leader in the multibillion-dollar home entertainment indusSenior EVP, Worldwide Marketing, Sony Pictures try,” said David Bishop, worldwide president of SPHE. “She was a key architect in the successful launch of Blu-ray Disc and, as part Home Entertainment of my senior team, continues to create new and effective programs to address the challenges of our evolving business and technological environment.” During her eight years on the job, Wong also has made her mark in myriad other ways, not just at Sony but on the overall home entertainment industry. She oversees hundreds of staff members worldwide, with an annual operating budget of more than $200 million. Wong is responsible for the development and implementation of global marketing for about 200 home video releases each year. She continues to spearhead Sony’s BD Live and digital copy efforts, and she works closely with Bishop to create strategic marketing for new technology platforms. Wong also has been behind the launch of some of Sony’s, and the industry’s, biggest Blu-ray releases, including Casino Royale. Many of the high-level employees answering to Wong are also women, a fact SPHE is proud to share. In addition to Wong and numerous SVPs, Sony Pictures’ home entertainment division boasts what may be the industry’s largest deployment of women executives in key VP roles. Among them: Jane Mohon, VP of digital marketing, consumer research, and national promotions; Jennifer Anderson, VP of marketing, studio and acquisitions; Carol Pirsztuk, VP of sales planning and sales reporting; Michelle Mikesell, VP of worldwide programming and marketing productions; Sheila Jairaj, VP of vendor managed inventory for North America; Dina Wiggins, VP of legal affairs; Susan Johnston, VP of Canadian business development; Barbara FranquiHevener, VP of domestic finance; Marcela Bailey, VP of information technology; Cara Taylor, VP of finance; and Marla Wert, VP of category management. 16 Home Media Magazine September 21–27, 2008
