That’s all in a life’s work for Laura Cook, who heads up worldwide business and legal affairs as well as information technology licensing for 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment. A legal staff of 14 out of Los Angeles and London reports to her directly, and outside counsel works with her all the time. Cook negotiated the acquisition of distribution rights for MGM, had a hand in establishing Blu-ray Disc, and is knee-deep in manufacturing on-demand and flashmemory download business models. Joint ventures in Europe? Cook. Want to get Star Wars distributed? Cook. Day-to-day advisement on copyright, antitrust and intellectual property issues for Fox senior management? In her sleep. “Laura brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the senior management team, and as our worldwide head of legal her perspective and input make her an invaluable business partner,” said Mike Dunn, worldwide president of 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment. Cook is a graduate of Stanford University. She subsequently earned journalism and law degrees from Columbia University. She spent a year in France as a Rotary Scholar. And she’s a member of the Bars of New York, Florida and California. On the weekends, when she’s not with her husband, 12-yearold son and two dogs, she generally can be found farming on her home orchard in Bel Air, Calif. MARY DAILY 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment just couldn’t stand it any longer: they had to bring Mary Daily back to the United States. The veteran executive previously had spent nine years as an executive for the studio in its European marketing unit in London. But last April, Fox brought Daily back into the fold and relocated her to Los Angeles. “Mary is a creative leader with the proven ability to bring a variety of entertainment products to diverse markets globally,” said Simon Swart, GM of North America for 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment. “Given that we offer consumers multiple ways to enjoy our products, her unique abilities are key to our success in the evolving consumer home entertainment marketplace.” As the studio’s EVP of marketing for North America, Daily is behind all of Fox’s product development, public relations, online, retail and event marketing, and promotions efforts. She’s also helping to spearhead the studio’s Blu-ray Disc and digital copy efforts. She knows the players and the game, having worked alongside Mike Dunn, president of 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment, during her stint with Fox in Europe. She helped bring Titanic and Star Wars to international markets and helped pioneer the idea of TV on VHS and DVD. “Mary brings a creative intensity and dynamic to marketing campaigns unlike any other executive and really gets them firing on all cylinders,” Dunn said. Before this second go-around with Fox, Daily was the head of new program enterprises for MTV Networks International for three years, managing distribution through Paramount. Before that, Daily was president of international marketing for Universal Pictures International for five years. Daily recently was named an independent assessor for Scottish Screen, a division of the United Kingdom Film Council that promotes projects that deal with Scottish culture and talent. She holds a post-graduate degree in international business studies from Napier University in Edinburgh, a double masters of arts with honors in philosophy and modern languages from the University of Glasgow, and speaks four languages. EVP, Marketing, North America, 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment ANNE PARDUCCI Lionsgate holds a record 8% home entertainment market share this year, according to Lionsgate president Steve Beeks. For family entertainment, that number’s up to 15%, he said. Both of those dramatic gains, and many other points of Lionsgate’s success, are due in large part to Anne Parducci, EVP of family entertainment and marketing. “Anne’s strategic thinking, expertise in brand management and knowledge of the retail space make her a valued and integral member of the home entertainment management team,” Beeks said. Strategic marketing, licensing and creative direction for Lionsgate’s new acquisitions as well as library titles are Parducci’s responsibilities. The family entertainment division is hers as well. She oversees production, marketing, brand management and acquisitions. “And most importantly, Anne’s energy, as well as her sense of humor and teamwork, make her a pleasure with whom to work,” Beeks said. “We feel very lucky to have her on our team.” Lionsgate snagged Parducci from Mattel, where she spent 14 years, mainly as SVP of business development and SVP of worldwide marketing. There, she headed up marketing for some of the company’s biggest brands, including Barbie and Polly Pocket. Parducci graduated from the University of Miami with a bachelor’s degree in business administration, and went on to earn her MBA from USC.
