The LCD HDTVs — in two 32-inch and two 37-inch models — feature 1080p video, three HDMI inputs, a tuner and detachable bases. “By bringing full HD 1080p resolution to smaller screen sizes, but at considerably lower price points than competitors, Vizio is making affordable 1080p flat-panel TVs available to consumers with space limitations,” said DisplaySearch/NPD’s Paul Gagnon. “In addition, Vizio is keying on a growing trend among design-conscious consumers with the Java series, emphasizing style and design along with performance and function.” Laynie Newsome, VP of sales and marketing at Vizio, said, “In today’s economy, it is even more important for Vizio to continue to offer Americans the newest features with unique new styles at extraordinary values.” – Chris Tribbey (Jaws, The French Connection) (American Psycho, Boiler Room) Susan MISNER (“Gossip Girl”, Chicago) I EXTERNAL BD DRIVES FOR WINDOWS, MACS ARRIVE While Apple’s Steve Jobs has tempered hopes that Mac computers would have built-in Blu-ray Disc capabilities any time soon, another company has come out with external Blu-ray drives. Other World Computing will release two external Blu-ray drives that work with both Windows and Macintosh operating systems. The drives also can read and write discs for HD DVD, DVD and CD. The drives “have been fully tested for compatibility with most Apple and Windows built-in and third party DVD/ CD tools and players, including Apple iTunes, Apple Disc Burner, Apple iDVD 5, Apple DVD Studio Pro, EMC Retrospect Express, NTI DragonBurn, Roxio Toast, Roxio Easy Media Creator, and Nero Burning,” the company said. Jobs reportedly said earlier this month that while Blu-ray was great for movies, “… the licensing of the tech is so complex, we’re waiting until things settle down and Blu-ray takes off in the marketplace.” – Chris Tribbey Noelle BECK (“As the World Turns”, “Cashmere Mafia”) Ronald GUTTMAN (27 Dresses, August Rush) When a maid is shot dead in the Hamptons, private investigator Linus (Scheider) must play a dangerous game of cat and mouse with the chief suspect, a trophy husband with something to hide.
